Dear Data

The "Dear Data" project, initiated by Giorgia Lupi and Stefanie Posavec, is a year-long endeavor involving the exchange of postcards featuring hand-drawn data visualizations depicting aspects of their personal lives. Weekly, they selected subjects for tracking, such as phone usage frequency and the number of complaints, translating this data into captivating visual representations sent to each other via postcards. The project sought to explore the convergence of data and personal experiences, fostering a more human and creative perspective on data. These postcards eventually formed the basis of a book, incorporating insights from the artists regarding their processes and findings.

Inspired by this initiative, I embarked on my own "Dear Data" project within my Visual Communication class. I systematically gathered data-driven visuals categorized as "I-Spy Beautiful" and "I-Spy Ugly," showcasing them in a captivating manner to evoke curiosity. The key element was presenting these visuals in a manner that connected the data points.
